Install an HVAC and Keep Cool

The Australian summer can be super hot. If you live in Australia, you will want to make sure you can stay cool during the intense heat. I came to realise how important HVAC systems are when I moved into an apartment which didn't have HVAC. It was OK in the winter, but by the summer, it was terrible. I called in an HVAC contractor and asked them to install a new system. It was amazing what a difference it made. The contractor also gave me some advice about how to maintain the system. I hope this blog is useful to you.

Key Troubleshooting Tips to Consider if Your AC Doesn't Turn On

Blog

Although the warm weather offers an excellent time to stay outdoors and participate in different activities with your loved ones, you still need to make sure your AC operates effectively. After all, you need to go indoors, and if the AC isn't functioning effectively, your house won't be cool and comfortable.

But what if you switch on your air conditioner and it doesn't get turned on? Most people usually rush to contact an air conditioning repair contractor before determining if it's a minor problem they can fix. Knowing how to troubleshoot your air conditioner can help you fix the issue or confirm that you need expert help. Below are some simple AC troubleshooting tips you should know.

Check out the circuit breaker

The circuit breaker is designed to turn off whenever it gets a power overload. This helps to protect your residence from fires. If you are using many appliances simultaneously and then you turn on the AC, the circuit breaker may trip. This often occurs if the air conditioner uses up a lot of power or is too old. Once it trips, your AC won't turn on. Verify if the circuit breaker needs a reset before you call your AC repair specialist.

Determine the condition of the evaporator coils and filter

As you continue to use your air conditioner, dust, dander and other forms of undesirable debris will build up on the components like the evaporator coils, filter or condenser. If the components aren't cleaned, the air conditioner will struggle to operate and eventually break down. So, if you haven't maintained the AC for a while and the unit won't turn on, you should consider checking if the problem is caused by dirty components. Wiping them clean might just get the AC running. Also, be sure to change the filters if they appear worn-out.

Verify if the motor is still in good shape

If the air conditioner was making unusual sounds earlier and won't just turn on, then the motor could be faulty. The best way to know if the motor can still work is to perform a capacitor test. If it can be fixed, then you'll need to call a professional to repair it on your behalf. In most cases, it's always better to replace the motor instead of repairing, mainly if you have used it for several years. Replacing might cost you more, but you will incur more expenses if the repairs are done regularly.
